All proceeds will go towards MusiCares' COVID relief scheme
Mr Bungle have released their first new song since 1999, a cover of Exploited’s ‘USA’.
The aggressive politically charged anthem, with a chorus of ‘fuck the USA’, and lyrics that include ‘This ain't the land of milk and honey/Cause all they want is money money money’ is good timing considering the current state of American affairs.
“Admit it, you've sung the chorus to this Exploited song in your head at least once in the last month,” the band wrote on their Facebook page. “It might veer close to a ‘universal sentiment’, and if so, well at least there's something we can all agree on!”
The band is donating all of the proceeds from the song and an accompanying T-shirt to MusiCares’ COVID-19 Relief Fund.
The single has been released through Ipecac Recordings, with co-owner Greg Werckman stating: “This is a song that resonates and speaks to the country that Ipecac calls home. Over 100,000 US citizens are dead from the pandemic. At the same time protective masks have turned into a political football and no one has a grasp on testing.
“Racism continues to rear its ugly head. Police brutality spikes, unemployment spikes, depression spikes and ‘our’ ego driven elected officials don’t seem to care.
“We need to do a better job of looking out for each other. MusiCares looks after all of us in the music community.”
The current lineup features Trevor Dunn, Mike Patton and Trey Spruance with Scott Ian (Anthrax, S.O.D) and Dave Lombardo (Dead Cross, ex-Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies). The band returned to the studio earlier this year after a long hiatus.
MusiCares is a charity that has provided more than $60 million in health, financial, and rehabilitation resources to music people in times of need.
During the past several weeks, the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund has raised nearly $14 million dollars to support thousands of music industry professionals affected by the pandemic.
